NAIFA-Columbus Community Impact Award Recipient

During the Membership Breakfast on Wednesday, September 21st, Holly Novak was presented with the Community Impact Award for being instrumental in creating Neighbor to Neighbor, a program that helps Union County residents stay in their own homes with help from volunteers. Members are matched with volunteers to help with household tasks and transportation. Neighbor to Neighbor also connects members to social and wellness programs and offers access to pre-screened service providers (plumbing, repairs) at a reduced cost.

In addition to serving as the Membership Committee Chair, Holly serves as the Branch Manager at Interim HealthCare located in Marysville, Marion, & Delaware where she has worked since 1999. She is responsible for all day-to-day operations, leadership, strategic planning, promotion, and growth of private duty home care and related community based services.

September Meeting Highlights

 

On September 21st, NAIFA-Columbus held their Membership Breakfast Meeting at J. Liu Restaurant in Worthington. During this breakfast, Immediate Past President I. David Cohen, CLU, ChFC, LUTCF was presented with the Past President’s Plaque and Holly Novak was presented with the Community Impact Award for her involvement in the Neighbor to Neighbor program in Union County. Also, Nancy Lower with Berson-Sokol, our featured sponsor, provided an update and NAIFA Members Brandon McIntyre, Jay Randall, Tony Shockley and Chris Watson discussed “Keys to Prospecting Success”.

Brandon D. McIntyre, CLU, CFP graduated from The Ohio State University Fisher College of Business with a B.B.A. in Marketing. He interned with Northwestern Mutual during his senior year of college and officially joined the Northwestern Mutual family in July 2009. Brandon is currently a Wealth Management Advisor and also serves as a Field Director to assist new Financial Representatives with development.


Jay C. Randall has been in the Financial Services Industry since 2009 and is a Financial Services Representative with Principal. He received his BBA in finance from the Miami University and holds a FINRA Series 6 and Series 63 securities registrations. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with family and friends.

 


Anthony R. Shockley, CLU, CLTC started his practice with John Hancock in 1985 upon earning his masters degree from The Ohio State University where he also earned his bachelors degree in 1983. He has been a member of NAIFA since 1985, serving on the board of the Columbus chapter for 14 years. Tony has worked for John Hancock throughout his entire career, primarily as a personal producer. He has also served as a Sales Manager and continues to work with brokers as a Brokerage Manager.

Christopher A. Watson entered into the financial services industry in June 2009. He holds his Series 6 securities license along with his Ohio Life/Health license and is a MRDT member. He resides in Columbus with his wife Brook, who is a speech language pathologist in Dublin City Schools. When not working, Chris enjoys golfing and traveling with his wife Brook.

 

A CE seminar was held immediately after the breakfast meeting from 9:15 am to 11:15 am. Blaine Brockman with Hickman & Lowder Co., LPA presented ““Special Needs and Elder Planning: Making a Good Life Possible” which offered two hours of CE credit.

Attorney Blaine Brockman is a passionate advocate for improving the quality of life for people with special needs and the elderly. He manages the Dublin office of Hickman & Lowder, Co. L.P.A. Blaine is very involved in the community, serving as Chairman of the Community Housing Network, on the Board of APSI (Advocacy and Protective Services, Inc.), on the Board of ARC Ohio, and as Treasurer of the board of Creative Housing. He is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA) and the Academy of Special Needs Planners (ASNP). Blaine served for 12 years on the Madison County Board of Developmental Disabilities. Blaine received his B.S. in Natural Resources from The Ohio State University and his J.D., cum laude, from Capital University Law School.
